Health Office Services
Our school nurse and health aide are here to support students’ health and wellness, but they cannot diagnose medical conditions. If your child feels sick or gets hurt at school, they should let their teacher know and get a pass to visit the health office. We’ll contact you if your child needs to go home or requires further care.
The health office helps students stay safe, healthy, and ready to learn. Services include:
- Annual vision and hearing screenings
- First aid for injuries and illness
- Administering medications and medical procedures
- Maintaining immunization and health records
- Reporting communicable diseases (as required by law)
- Supporting and training staff, students, and families on health-related issues
We’re here to help your child stay healthy and in school!
Medications, Devices, and Immunizations
Medications
If your child needs to take medication at school, please bring it to the health office before the first day. An adult must deliver all medications—students may not bring them in. A signed permission form is required each school year for both prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications. Prescription meds must come in the original pharmacy-labeled container. By law, we can only give medication to the student it’s prescribed, and all medications are administered through the health office. Please pick up any remaining medication by the last day of school—unclaimed meds will be safely disposed of the day after school ends.
Medical devices
If your child needs to use a medical device at school (e.g., crutches, wheelchair, cane, cast, or sling), please notify the school nurse or health aide in advance.
Immunizations
Arizona law (ARS 15-872) requires all students (K–12) to have documented proof of immunizations or immunity before starting school. Families have 30 days to provide records. Without this documentation—or an approved exemption form—students cannot attend school.
Preventing Illness at School
To help keep everyone healthy, please make sure your child is fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine (like Tylenol, Advil, or aspirin) before returning to school. Good handwashing, as recommended by the Arizona Department of Health Services, is also key to stopping the spread of illnesses like colds, flu, and other viruses. If your child is sick, keeping them home helps protect their classmates and teachers.
Meet Our WSS Counselor
Hi West Sedona School Families!
I have been a school counselor for nineteen years and was a PE/health teacher before becoming a counselor. I have been able to work as a school counselor at every level: middle school, high school, and now I work at the elementary level and enjoy every aspect of it, especially helping my students!
I have a husband, two sons, a big orange cat, and two chihuahuas. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family outside hiking and camping. We moved to Sedona, Arizona, after spending 25 years in Flagstaff, Arizona. I also have a love for cooking and enjoy making great meals for my family!
My goal in life has always been to help others, so becoming a school counselor was the perfect career choice for me. I enjoy helping the students believe in who they are and helping them identify their strengths and interests in life. Working as an elementary school counselor, I get the opportunity to teach classroom lessons that focus on social/emotional health and college and career readiness. I look forward to and hope to have a positive impact on the Sedona community!
